The City of Solvang sits about 26 miles from Vandenberg Space Force Base, making Solvang an ideal “launchpad” for wine country explorations that might include regular rocket launches. Vandenberg Space Force Base Launch Awareness and Upcoming Launch
Vandenberg Space Force Base is a vital part of our nation’s space program, and launches from the base are a regular occurrence. These launches often produce audible sonic booms that can be heard along California’s Central Coast. While the base is actively working on measures to mitigate any community impacts, such as adjusting trajectories and launch times, they need the community’s help to collect more data to accurately identify and address the variables that contribute to these impacts.
Vandenberg Space Force Base is currently collaborating with Brigham Young University, the FAA, and SpaceX to study the issue and develop effective solutions. In the meantime, they have established a launch alert system to keep the public informed about upcoming launches.
